Day 1: Arrival – The Great Olive Oil Incident (and Initial Panic)

Morning (8:00 AM – 12:00 PM): Arrive in Athens! Passport control? Passed it! Luggage carousel? Conquered it! I felt like Indiana Jones, except way less prepared and with significantly more anxiety about losing my passport. Taxi chaos ensued. Seriously, the Athens taxi drivers are a whole experience. Finally, after a near-death experience trying to cross the street (seriously, they treat crosswalks like suggestions), we made it to the Ilion Hotel. The lobby? Morning (9:00 AM – 12:00 PM): Wandering through the Plaka, the oldest neighborhood in Athens. Cobblestone streets! Quaint shops! And, oh my god, the souvenirs! I became a magnet for cheesy magnets and slightly-too-expensive trinkets. I found a charming little cafe and enjoyed a Freddo espresso (delicious, caffeine-fueled fuel).
Afternoon (12:00 PM – 3:00 PM): Lunch in Plaka: Moussaka! I'd been trying to avoid the heavy dishes so I don't gain a huge amount of weight. But, damn it, it was Moussaka! The best I've ever tasted. I'm starting to think I might need to buy a whole suitcase just for food.

1. ¿De verdad es "Paraíso Griego" o es solo marketing? Porque ya uno se cansa...

¡Ay, la pregunta del millón! Mira, honestamente, "Paraíso Griego" es una exageración, como diría mi abuela, pero... ¡casi! Estuve allí la semana pasada, y sí, el sol te da en la cara como un cachete suave, el agua del mar es un azul que te dan ganas de llorar de lo bonito (¡literal!) y las comidas... ¡mmm! Claro, no es *perfecto*.

Pero, ¿el marketing? Sí, hay un poco. Pero, ¿la experiencia? Digamos que supera las expectativas si lo que buscas es relajarte y respirar. Ojo, no esperes una playa desierta y virgen, porque con la economía actual, ¡casi siempre hay gente! Pero, te aseguro, encuentras tu rincón de paz.

Y además, suma extras: El desayuno (¡bueno, pero no gratis!), las excursiones (¡yo me gasté un dineral en una! pero valió la pena...), y los souvenirs (¡ay, los souvenirs! Me volví loca). Revisa bien tu presupuesto y compara con otros hoteles. Pero, en general, es una buena opción calidad-precio.

Las habitaciones... ¡otro tema! A ver, son correctas. No son de lujo, pero tampoco son un cuchitril. Estaban limpias, eso sí, las camareras se lo curran. La mía daba a la piscina (¡un poco ruidosa por la noche! Los jovencitos...), pero pedí cambio (¡y me lo dieron!).

Mi consejo: Pide una habitación que no dé a la calle o a la piscina si buscas silencio. Y, por si acaso, ¡lleva tapones para los oídos! Nunca sabes con qué te vas a encontrar... Lo del ruido es un clásico en los hoteles, ¿verdad? ¡Es el precio de la "diversión"!

El desayuno... ¡¡ay, el desayuno!! Había de todo, pero me obsesioné con el yogur griego con miel y nueces. ¡OMG! Y los panes... ¡Dios mío, los panes! El problema es que te pones como una foca marina, ¡y luego a ver cómo te pones el bikini! Pero, vamos, que la comida está bastante bien. Busca el momento para comer en la terraza, es un gustazo.

5. ¿Hay actividades? ¿O te aburres como una ostra?

Actividades... depende de lo que busques. Hay piscina, claro. Y la playa está cerca (¡OJO! No es la playa privada del hotel, es pública, como en casi toda Grecia). Hay animación (discreta, ¡gracias a Dios!), y puedes contratar excursiones.

Yo, me apunté a una excursión a Delphi (¡¡PRECIOSO!!, pero un palizón de autobús...). Y también alquilé un coche (¡¡más caro de lo que esperaba!!, pero valió la pena para explorar la zona). Si te gusta la marcha, hay cosas, si prefieres el relax, ¡lo encuentras! Yo me pasé días leyendo en la hamaca y ¡¡fabuloso!!. Pero si tienes niños, infórmate bien qué actividades hay para ellos... ¡que no se aburran!

6. ¿El personal? ¿Son amables? ¿O te tratan como ganado? (porque ya he tenido malas experiencias...)

¡El personal! Fundamental... En general, son agradables y serviciales. Como en todos los sitios, hay de todo. Unos más amables que otros, unos más eficientes... Pero, a mí me trataron bien. Les pedí algo (¡ay, qué se me olvidó! ¡Ya sabes, con la edad...!) y me ayudaron sin problemas.

Lo del trato como ganado... No, en general no. Intentan que te sientas a gusto. Pero, ¡ojo! Hay que tener en cuenta que están trabajando. Y a veces, ¡con la que cae! Sé amable tú también, saluda, sonríe... ¡y las cosas van mucho mejor!

7. ¿Cómo es ir con niños? ¿Hay cosas para ellos? (¡me da pánico!)

¡Ah, los niños! Mira, yo fui sola, así que no puedo hablar desde la experiencia directa. PERO... Vi familias. Vi niños. Vi más o menos contentos. Lo que sí te recomiendo es que te pongas en contacto con el hotel y preguntes: Si tienen club infantil, si hay actividades específicas para niños, la opción de tronas y cunas.

La piscina es un plus, eso sí. Y la playa, aunque no sea privada, también es una ventaja. Pero, pregunta, pregunta, pregunta. Y si tus hijos son muy pequeños, ¡investiga a fondo! No te fíes de lo que veas en fotos. ¡Ah, y lleva muchos pañales, crema solar y un buen seguro médico!
