Mmm… ¡Depende! Si eres del tipo "todo incluido y aire acondicionado", probablemente no. Si te va la aventura, la inmersión cultural y no te asustan los imprevistos (y en Tailandia, ¡los hay!), entonces sí. Recuerdo la primera vez, yo, con mi españolito tembloroso, intentando pedir un café (que resultó ser un té verde con leche condensada… una bomba, pero qué rico!). La barrera del idioma es real, pero la amabilidad tailandesa… esa, es abrumadora y, a veces, la única forma de comunicación que necesitas. Prepárate para sonreír mucho y gesticular más.

¡Uf, las actividades! A ver… generalmente, te proponen paseos en bicicleta por los campos (prepara la pomada para el sol, que pega de lo lindo), clases de cocina tailandesa (¡ojo con el picante!), visitas a templos (¡viste con respeto, por favor!), y… la joya de la corona: convivir con la familia. Dicho esto, no esperes un calendario milimétrico. A veces, las actividades se improvisan. Un día, fuimos a pescar… ¡con las manos! (Mi primer y último intento, por cierto, yo y el pez, no congeniamos).
¿Internet? Digamos que no es la prioridad. Hay Wi-Fi, pero no esperes Netflix en Full HD. A veces funciona, a veces no. Es una oportunidad para DESCONECTAR, ¿verdad? (Aunque a mí, a veces, me entraba el pánico de no poder subir fotos a Instagram… ¡sí, soy humana!). Prepárate para leer, charlar (con quien puedas, claro), y observar la vida. El otro día, recuerdo que estaba yo, con la boca abierta, y la lengua en llamas, tras probar un plato que, el amable anfitrión, me había asegurado que era "muy suave". ¡Suave para ellos, tal vez! Prepárate para el picante, mucho picante. Intenta decir "mai phet" (no picante) al pedir. Pero, aun así, prepárate… a veces, el picante se te escapa.
¿Es seguro? En general, sí. La familia cocina con cariño y con ingredientes frescos. Pero, Tailandia es conocida por sus bacterias… así que, ojo con el agua que bebes (siempre embotellada), y lleva contigo medicamentos para el estómago (¡por si acaso!). Yo, por si acaso, me llevo de todo, ¡hasta un botiquín de guerra! La primera vez, me pasé un día entero en el baño… ¡pero aprendí rápido! Y, por cierto, la comida, a pesar del picante, ¡es deliciosa! ¡No te la pierdas!
¿Qué tipo de alojamiento ofrecen? ¿Es cómodo?
A ver, "cómodo"... depende de tu definición de comodidad. Olvídate de lujos. Generalmente, te alojas en una habitación dentro de la casa familiar, o en una especie de "bungalow" (una cabaña más que nada). Normalmente, es sencillo. Cama, mosquitera (¡IMPRESCINDIBLE!), baño (a veces con agua caliente, a veces no… ¡otra aventura!). Lo importante es la experiencia. Es, te lo aseguro, otra forma de vivir. Yo, por ejemplo, dormí bajo un ventilador que parecía que iba a despegar… ¡pero qué recuerdos!
La experiencia con la familia: ¿Cómo es realmente? ¿Me sentiré “como en casa”?
¡Ah, la familia! Ese es el corazón de Ongsa HomeStay. La calidez tailandesa es real. Te reciben con los brazos abiertos (y, a veces, con un collar de flores, ¡que es un puntazo!). Intentan comunicarse, aunque no hablen tu idioma. Te invitan a sus comidas, te enseñan sus costumbres, te hacen sentir parte de su día a día. Es… conmovedor.
¿Te sentirás “como en casa”? No, no exactamente. Te sentirás como en casa… *en otra casa*. Una casa diferente, con otras costumbres, con otra forma de ver el mundo. Y eso, créeme, es lo valioso. Recuerdo un día, sentados en el suelo, comiendo arroz con las manos (sí, como lo hacen ellos, ¡al principio es un poco complicado!). Y la abuela, sonriéndome y señalando la comida… Ese día, me sentí… conectado. ¡Fue mágico! Y, claro, también hubo momentos de silencio, de no entender nada, de sentirme un poco… perdido. Pero, en ese "estar perdido" es donde, realmente, te encuentras.
