¡Il Monastero: El Secreto Mejor Guardado de Italia Te Está Esperando!

¡Oh, Dios Mío! Il Monastero: El Secreto Mejor Guardado de Italia Te Está Esperando!… Let's break it down, shall we? This isn't just a hotel review; it's a confession, a love letter, and a mild panic attack all rolled into one, porque… Italia! And Il Monastero? Sounds seriously fancy. Let's see if it lives up to the hype and, más importante, if I can live at all.

Accessibility & Safety: Un Primer Paso con Sentido

Okay, okay… first things first. Accessibility. This is crucial, people. "Facilities for disabled guests" is listed, which is a buen comienzo. But specifically? Elevators are listed, que es positivo! We all need to know, eh? Wheelchair accessible? Necesitamos saberlo. I'd be calling ahead to get the details.

Cleanliness & Safety: ¿Miedo al virus? ¡No aquí!

¡Ay, el COVID! It’s a shadow we all live under now. And Il Monastero seems to be on it. Anti-viral cleaning products, daily disinfection, rooms sanitized, sanitized kitchen and tablewareufff, me siento como si pudiera respirar tranquila! They've even got hand sanitizer everywhere. And Staff trained in safety protocol? Bienísimo. They're taking this seriously, and that's what I want to hear. Physical distancing of at least 1 meter? Good, because I don't want to hug a stranger anytime soon.

Room Sanitization Opt-out Disponible: ¡Claro que NO!

Dining, Drinking, and Snacking: ¡Ay, la comida! El alma de Italia.

This is where my heart starts fluttering. Italy is about food. And Il Monastero promises a festival de sabores. Restaurants, a la carte restaurant, buffet, a bar, coffee shop, snack bar, poolside bar, room service 24-hour… ¡DIOS MIO! ¡Quiero todo! Asian breakfast, Asian cuisine, international cuisine, Western breakfast, Western cuisine… Seriously, if I'm not eating something delicious every hour, I'm going to be furious. Breakfast in room, breakfast takeaway service (Perfect for late-night snacking), bottle of water… I'm starting to drool just thinking about it. Vegetarian restaurant. Muy bien. Happy hour? Obvio. Desserts in restaurant? If they're good, I might just move in.

However… A la carte in restaurant… ¿Y si está lleno? I need to consider this. Buffet in restaurant. Me gusta!

The Experience: Let's Get Specific - Massage. Oh, the Massage…

Okay. Let's get real. I'm a stressed-out human being. Il Monastero boasts a Spa, sauna, steamroom, swimming pool, pool with view, gym/fitness… But for me, the crucial part? Massage… specifically, a massage!

Picture it: I arrive, stressed, frazzled. The receptionist, probably beautiful with a perfect Italian accent, checks me in. I'm escorted to my room (hopefully with a view, porque… Italia!). I immediately shed my travel clothes, put on the provided bathrobes and slippers, and then… the massage.

I picture it. It's a deep tissue massage, because I need seriously help with my back. The massage therapist, probably a tiny Italian woman, is ruthless but kind. The essential oils are divine. The music? Soft, soothing. I might even fall asleep. And wake up feeling, for the first time in months, relaxed.

Aftermath of the Massage

After the massage, I'm probably going to stumble to the pool with a view. It is essential for my Instagram. Then, to rest and let myself embrace the moment.

  • I might get a body wrap and a body scrub. Porque, ¿por qué no?

Il Monastero Italy

¡Ay, Dios mío, Il Monastero! This little island… it's been a rollercoaster, a gelato-fueled, sun-drenched, slightly seasick rollercoaster! Here's the desordenado chronicle:

Día 1: Arrival and ¡Mama Mia! (and Jet Lag)

  • 08:00: Landed in… Catania? (Pretty sure that's the right airport. The signs were blurry after the red-eye.) The sun was already beating down, a good sign, though my brain felt like a scrambled egg.
  • 09:30 - 11:00: Taxi to the port. Cazzo, Italian drivers! I swear, I aged ten years in that ride.
  • 11:30 - 12:00: Ferry to Il Monastero. Finally, the smell of the sea! Pure bliss… until I started feeling the gentle sway. "Ugh, the boat," I thought. "The boat!" I muttered. This island is small, so I didn't think the movement of the ferry would affect me but it did. Not great.
  • 12:30: Checked into the pension. Charming, in a slightly faded, "grandmother's house" kind of way. The owner, a woman named Lucia, seemed to appraise me with one eyebrow raised. "Americano?" she asked, with a hint of amusement. I confirmed this. I might be the only American here.
  • 13:00: Lunch. Ordered the pasta con sarde, because, when in Rome… or, well, Il Monastero. It was… interesting. The sardines were… intense. I ate half, pretended to love the rest, and made a mental note to find a gelateria immediately.
  • 14:30 - 18:00: Jet lag hit HARD. Slept in my room, not even unpacking, and slept even more. Woke up at 18:00 and wandered the streets.
  • 19:00: Sunset. Spectacular. Seriously, get a camera. The light was unbelievable, turning the whole island golden. Even the cat that kept eyeing my leftover pastry looked majestic.
  • 20:00: Dinner at a little trattoria. Tried the house wine, which was… let's just say, it did the job. Ate some more pasta (learning my lesson, opted for something simpler this time), and contemplated life. Il Monastero life. This will be the start of something special.

Día 2: ¡Il Mare! and the Unexpected Octopus

  • 09:00: Breakfast. Decent coffee, and a slice of something suspiciously resembling cardboard disguised as a brioche.
  • 10:00: Found a beach! Not the perfect, postcard-worthy one. A rocky one, with a few sun loungers that looked like they'd seen better days. But the water! Crystal clear. The urge to swim was strong.
  • 10:30 - 13:00: Swam, sunbathed (carefully!), and had my first true bella vita moment. The sea was so clear that I could see the fish swim around.
  • 13:00: Tried to find something for lunch. I wanted to make a picnic but my stomach grumbled and I needed to eat something right away.
  • 14:00: Went to a seafood restaurant near the beach. I remember seeing a small, fresh octopus in a glass tank and felt somewhat unsettled.
  • 14:30: The waiter came to my table, and I was so eager to try out my Italian skills. "Un'insalata di polpo," I said boldly, thinking I knew the word. I thought I would order a salad with octopus, but didn't realize that the restaurant had a special on octopus dishes.
  • 15:00: I then hear from my waiter that it was on its way to the kitchen! It was the SAME FRESH OCTOPUS that I saw earlier! I felt a wave of guilt. But then I thought, "I'm here and they're cooking, and it's been caught and I can't do anything but eat it!" So, I prepared myself as best as I could.
  • 15:30: The octopus salad arrived. It was… incredible. Tender, flavorful, with a hint of lemon and herbs. It was the BEST meal I've had in ages. And I have to admit, the guilt dissipated faster than the food on my plate.
  • 16:00 - 18:00: A walk around the town. Found a tiny shop selling ceramics, and bought a tiny ceramic octopus. For sentimental reasons.
  • 19:00: Back at the pension, chatted with Lucia. She told me about the island's history, the fishing, the secret spots to watch the sunset. She's a character, that woman.
  • 20:00: Dinner. Pasta, again. I may have become addicted. Good thing my clothes are loose.

Día 3: Chiesa and the Island's Soul

  • 09:00: Back at the pension for breakfast, slightly hungover from the wine last night.
  • 10:00-12:00: Walked to the church. The Chiesa seemed to be sitting on top of the hill, and it was beautiful. In stark contrast to the modern world, and as I admired the walls, I heard the voices of the other tourists.
  • 12:00: Lunch at the same restaurant. The octopus salad again. It was a sign!
  • 13:00-14:00: Went back to the church, and I sat down to hear the voices of the church. I felt like I was a ghost.
  • 15:00: Strolled around and saw an outdoor music festival. I was amazed to see so many people and so many different types of cultures. It was a beautiful symphony of diversity.
  • 16:00 Back to the hotel. I slept!
  • 17:00 Up and ready for dinner.
  • 18:00 The sunset was absolutely breathtaking. I stared at the sunset for a long time.
  • 19:00 More pasta and wine. I feel like this place wants me to be one with their culture.

Day 4: Leaving… With a Heavy Heart?

  • 09:00: Checked out of the pension. Lucia gave me a hug and a very intense look. " Arrivederci, Americano," she said, with a twinkle in her eye. I'll never forget that woman.
  • 10:00: Ferry back to… well, back to reality.
  • 11:00: Airport.
  • 12:00: Plane.

Final Thoughts:

Il Monastero isn't perfect. It's rough around the edges, a little loud, the food maybe a little repetitive. But it's real. It's got heart. It's got an octopus that changed my life. And as the plane lifted off, I felt… well, I felt a pang of sadness. I could have easily stayed longer. Maybe next year.

¡Il Monastero: El Secreto Mejor Guardado de Italia Te Está Esperando! – ¡Y Menuda Espera! (Preguntas Frecuentes...

(ejem, Florencia, te miro a ti).

No esperes lujos, ¿vale?
